Charlotte
Crewe: Still Moving
Crewe trained as a performer and lectures
full time at Cheltenham and Gloucester College.
Her performance work includes commissions by Chisenhale Dance Space,
Institute of
Contemporary Arts-London and Tramway in Glasgow. Charlotte Crewe
was commissioned by Picture This and Watershed to produce a work
that explored the combination of still and moving image.
The imagery for the film was developed from research into the documentation
of sleep disorders, to look at the depiction of sleeping characters
in films, particularly those of Alfred Hitchcock who was notorious
for placing women under the scrutiny of the cinematic gaze. The
film explores still and moving images through the use of digital
technology and film to create and interesting visual style and atmosphere.
