Commotion

An exciting new touring series of programmes put together by curators from the UK , Finland, Ireland and the Netherlands. The programmes are themed and explore different issues or creative genres.

Repertoire

"Performance has played a major role within the history of artist's film and video, with much of it falling into one of two categories. On the one hand is a prevalence of task based performance, often categorised by a static camera that pays witness to the artist performing an action until they reach a logical conclusion - the action is completed, the artist is exhausted or the film runs out. On the other hand is a broad range of work that variously draws upon cinematic or televisual codes and practices.

The works included in this programme fail to fit neatly into either of these categories, spilling over into an increasingly prominent and distinct area. They all draw upon the language of theatre, using scripts and/or choreographed movement, costumes, sets and props, mining the possibilities of theatricality from within the framework of the visual arts and straddling the conventions of numerous art forms to vindicate an interdisciplinary approach."
