Kim
Coleman & Jenny Hogarth
Kim
Coleman & Jenny Hogarth's work explores the dichotomy between
the artificial and the natural in various ways; through themes of
the man-made and the ‘natural', the choreographed and non-choreographed.
On the boundary between the representational and the non-representational,
their videos are presented in ways which reflect back upon their
subject but also on the tools and actions involved in creating,
compiling and editing them.
Kim
& Jenny's new multi-screen video installation Act Natural
uses light as a medium and a subject and explores simple modifications
made to the artists and their environment.
These
works follow on from the artists' previous work in performance ,
recent events and exhibitions include an experiment in re-enactment
based upon the Boyle family's seminal 1965 happening Oh What
a Lovely Whore (ICA London, April 2008) and the video installation
Affect, Connect, Reflect (Phillips de Pury, New York,
March 2008).
The
work is installed in the eclectic heritage site the Museum of Bath
at Work, and is set amongst a plethora of memorabilia from the last
200 years of working Bath . Though part filmed at the
Museum, Act Natural does not set out to directly engage
the permanent collection; rather it considers how changing light
and time frames the routine of a day, week, month or year.
Act
Natural by Kim Coleman &
Jenny Hogarth was produced by Picture This and is a joint commission
between AMIE, Picture This and South West Screen as part of Recorded
Live, a programme of new performance to camera moving image works.
Recorded Live is supported by Arts Council England Lottery Funding.
Exhibition
The work will be presented
at the AMIE/08 exhibition in association with the Bath Film Festival
2008.
