Andrew
Mania: Moving Stills
Andrew Mania is an artist who lives
and works in Bristol and has exhibited at Milton Keynes Gallery,
Vilma Gold Gallery, London, Jerwood Gallery, London as was included
in New Contemporaries in 2000. Mania is like a collector
of curiosities, or a cultural vagrant. The artist sometimes recycles
found images like old master drawings or photographs and then adds
his own obsessions or dialogues such as Yeti’s, UFOs or birdlike
swarms. The artist has now completed his first moving image project
that was supported through the Small Wonders Scheme.
Moving Stills is a collection of short videos featuring
a series of urban and rural scenes that explore perception, composition
and movement. The works Reception, Return and
Junge Frau enliven or re-contextualise illustrations and
paintings whilst Apple Tree, Yellow, Mute,
Glint and Space Man incorporate figures and objects
to challenge viewers spatial and temporal expectations.
Gasworks, London are screening
