From One Thing To Another
Date: 19 January - 23 February 2008
Location: Picture This Atelier, Bristol, UK

Synopsis:
From One Thing to Another consisted of works which continue the artists’ ongoing investigations into architecture, performance, drawing, sculpture and film, and suggest a range of new developments in both formal and conceptual terms.
All seven works presented in From One Thing to Another were made in 2007. Of these, the three works Night and Day, Mic/amp and Fan/paper/fan were commissioned by Capture5, CAPTURE's commissioning fund, and produced in association with Picture This.
The remaining four works in the show share the same characteristic of the commissions in that the artists, known for their performance to camera, are largely absent from the work.
Blind Spot offers a dexterous combination of a visual / verbal pun with perspectival slight of hand, while the reliability of the seamless long shot of One Percent is undercut by the colour change of a ball that is repeatedly tossed in the air, as if marking time.
In Photocopier, a familiar office machine produces a crude animation of a ship travelling along a horizon line, obliterating the drudgery of a task with the dream of escape. Space Wallpaper offers a similar moment of reverie. A static camera is focused on a scroll of children's wallpaper, creating the illusion of flight from minimal means.
