BRISTOL
MEAN TIME
2009 ARTIST ANNOUNCED
Rachel
Reupke has been announced
as the recipient of the Film London Artists' Moving Image Network
(FLAMIN) and Picture This 2009 Bristol Mean Time* residency. Reupke
will be working at the Atelier space in Bristol from July to September
2009. During this time she will develop a new work provisionally
titled Purple/Brown, which will subsequently be shown in Picture
This' exhibition space.
Purple/Brown
will take as its central focus the sanitised visual language of
commercial stock footage to construct an alternative reality; rendering
props, performance, emotional and technical content democratically
equal.
Rachel
Reupke's video works examine the mediation of human experience through
technology, employing a variety of delivery systems including cinematic
special effects, webcams and camera obscura. Future prediction and
the act of visualisation are also strong threads that run through
the work.
The
Bristol Mean Time residency offers a London-based artist film-maker
the chance to develop new moving image work, providing the selected
artist with access to full production, post-production and exhibition
technology, studio and office space at Picture This.

Until the dawn of the railways local time for the people of Bristol
was 10 minutes faster than Greenwich Mean Time, based on the city's
latitudinal position relative to the Greenwich Meridian Line in
London . To this day the clock over the old Corn Exchange in Bristol
has two minute hands. The black minute hand shows Greenwich Mean
Time while the red minute hand shows Bristol time.
